Whether you want to start a new business, lose weight, ask for a raise, change jobs, go back to school or start dating again, it all requires you to put yourself out there in one way or another. Then there is a little voice of disbelief that grows from within your head. It gives you all the reasons why it “won’t” work, why you “won’t” find what you are looking for, and a whole bunch of other junk. So instead of jumping into your dreams, you nosedive into your fears. Ultimately, putting yourself out there in one or more ways is super scary!! But many people let their fears win anyway because it is comfortable.
These little noisemakers inside your head are called limiting beliefs and everyone has them. Knowing your limiting beliefs are the first step to stopping them and extinguishing them from your mind. So I’ve created a little exercise so you can dig deep and evaluate what is popping up for you.
This exercise will get you to question your thoughts and your fears so you can eradicate them for good.
Pick an issue in your life that you want to work on or something that you’d like to change in your life. Then ask yourself the following questions.
Question 1: What are your fears around this issue? In other words, what’s the worst that can happen?
Question 2: What will happen if you do not accomplish this?
Question 3: What could happen if you do accomplish this or make this change?
Question 4: What frightens you or is holding you back from making this change? Why?
What did you find out about yourself from this exercise? Did you gain some insight?
Now, I challenge you to take a small step in the direction of change regardless of your limiting beliefs. Change your thoughts as well by giving yourself an affirmation or a mantra to help you take guided steps toward living the life you really want.
Write down your mantra or affirmation on a piece of paper and use it as a reminder of your choice to change, and to ignore the limiting beliefs.
You can do anything you set your mind to do! Now, get out there and do it!
In love and light,
